The percentage of people testing positive for coronavirus (COVID19) continued to increase in England and Scotland, and the trends were uncertain in Wales and Northern Ireland.

In England, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 1,197,200 (95% credible interval: 1,135,000 to 1,263,900), equating to 2.20% of the population (an increase from 2.01% in the previous week), or around 1 in 45 people.

In Wales, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 57,600 (95% credible interval: 45,800 to 70,300), equating to 1.89% of the population or around 1 in 55 people.

In Northern Ireland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 37,000 (95% credible interval: 27,000 to 48,900), equating to 2.02% of the population or around 1 in 50 people.

In Scotland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 130,900 (95% credible interval: 111,100 to 153,400), equating to 2.49% of the population (an increase from 1.91% in the previous week), or around 1 in 40 people.

In Wales, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 43,400 (95% credible interval: 33,200 to 55,100), equating to 1.43% of the population, or around 1 in 70 people.

In Northern Ireland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 36,700 (95% credible interval: 27,000 to 47,100), equating to 2.00% of the population (an increase from 1.57% in the previous week), or around 1 in 50 people.

In Scotland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 88,500 (95% credible interval: 71,000 to 106,800), equating to 1.68% of the population, or around 1 in 60 people.

In England, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 1,432,900 (95% credible interval: 1,339,600 to 1,524,800), equating to 2.63% of the population, or around 1 in 40 people.

In Wales, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 72,600 (95% credible interval: 54,800 to 93,000), equating to 2.39% of the population, or around 1 in 40 people.

In Northern Ireland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 36,600 (95% credible interval: 25,100 to 50,200), equating to 2.00% of the population, or 1 in 50 people.

In Scotland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 164,100 (95% credible interval: 137,400 to 193,700), equating to 3.12% of the population, or around 1 in 30 people.
We have now moved to a more flexible remote data collection method. Participants can complete the survey online or by telephone, and swab and blood sample kits are sent through the post (or by courier for some participants). Results for the week ending 8 August 2022 for Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, and the week ending 6 August 2022 for England are based on both study worker and remote data collection.

The percentage of people testing positive for coronavirus (COVID19) continued to decrease in England, Wales and Scotland; and the trend remained uncertain in Northern Ireland.

In England, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 2,106,000 (95% credible interval: 1,987,200 to 2,234,800), equating to 3.86% of the population, or around 1 in 25 people.

In Wales, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 108,800 (95% credible interval: 84,500 to 136,200), equating to 3.58% of the population, or around 1 in 30 people.

In Northern Ireland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 109,800 (95% credible interval: 83,500 to 138,300), equating to 5.98% of the population, or around 1 in 17 people.

In Scotland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID19 was 260,800 (95% credible interval: 211,900 to 314,700), equating to 4.95% of the population, or around 1 in 20 people.
The results in this bulletin are based on data collected from study workers. We are now moving to an online data collection method and postal returns for swabs and blood samples. As a result of this change, there will be a pause to the publication of our weekly bulletin on Friday 12 August 2022.
