Applications are invited for a Research Assistant in High-Throughput Genomics (HTG) to work at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.
The primary role for this position is to, in support of all applications offered by HTG, to carry out genomics service projects involving sample handling and performing complex experimental procedures for library preparation and sequencing utilising the latest Illumina sequencing platforms currently used.
You will perform and analyse QC assays on customer samples or assay products/libraries. You will also design, perform and monitor High Throughput Sequencing runs in conjunction with Project managers and the Sequencing Production Section Leader while monitoring project deadlines. You will also troubleshoot technical or scientific problems, working closely with peers, senior management and relevant technical support.
You will have a BSc in biological sciences with demonstrable knowledge in molecular biology. You will have experience of performing complex experimental procedures following SOPs, with demonstrable manual dexterity and respect for precision high-cost equipment. You will have the ability to organise and prioritise work efficiently, delivering results to a high standard and to an agreed schedule. You will be able to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
The position is funded by the Department and is fixed-term for 1 year in the first instance.
