Family and friends event-9th May

Air dough cells

Following on from the success of previous events, NDM Strategic hosted a Family and Friends event on 9th May 2014. A mini-science fair took place in the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics cafe between 3 and 6pm and all staff were invited to bring their families and friends along to work to see the range of research happening on Old Road Campus.

Children of all ages attended the event and enjoyed the wide variety of table-top activities that were on offer from different NDM groups. These included a fun quiz about tuberculosis and malaria, DNA extraction from strawberries, making DNA bracelets, looking at malaria parasites down a microscope, a coconut shy that explained antibiotic resistance in bacteria, a cancer card game, cell colouring sheets and making cells out of air dough.

Some of these activities will now be travelling to Cheltenham in June as part of the Times Science Festival; NDM will have a stall in the Discover Zone over the course of the festival with different groups running the stall each day.
