To celebrate the last day of half term NDM held a special outreach afternoon on the 21st of February 2014. This on-campus family friendly science festival was held in the ORCRB atrium and welcomed the families and friends of everyone working on the Old Road Campus.
With a number of exciting public engagement events coming up in 2014, NDM staff and student volunteers presented an exciting new collection of games and activities, aimed at communicating the Department's research to the public in an accessible and fun way.
The event received incredibly positive feedback from staff and their families - here's what they had to say:
"I talked to scientists from protein crystallography and they explained different methods to check protein structures. Very interesting!" - Scientist and mother of two.
"I thought it would be mainly geared towards children and games, which it was, but the manned displays also offered adults the opportunity to ask curious questions without feeling awkward or inhibited by asking!" - Administrator from WTCHG.
"I liked the cell painted on the floor. I learnt that there are many things inside the cell that make different things." - 7 year old visitor.
"The activities were very interesting, my daughter enjoyed them very much. They were simple to understand but rigorous with science, good job." - Scientist from ORCRB.
"Thank you very much for organising these kinds of events. They are great for children to get involved and attracted to science." - Scientist and mother of two.
