The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) | Wellcome Trust Research Programme was established in 1989 as a partnership between KEMRI, Oxford University and the Wellcome Trust. It conducts basic, epidemiological and clinical research in parallel, with results feeding directly into local and international health policy, and aims to expand the country's capacity to conduct multidisciplinary research that is strong, sustainable and internationally competitive. Strong community links are at the heart of the Programme, with an emphasis on capacity building and training to build scientific leadership.
Several key principles run through the work of the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme
2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the KEMRI– Wellcome Trust Research Programme and the 50th anniversary of the Wellcome Trust’s partnership with the Government of Kenya.
Well known around the world for our work on malaria and other infectious diseases, we conduct basic, clinical and health systems research with results feeding directly into local and international health policy.
