I carried out my PhD on cellular immunology and virology jointly at the University of Oxford and at the KEMRI-Wellcome Research Programme in Kenya. Following my PhD, I relocated to Mexico to participate in the joint programme in Neglected Tropical Diseases between the University of Oxford and various Mexican partners including the University of Puebla.
An initial joint project between the partners in Oxford and Mexico has been the study of ex vivo immune responses to antigens derived from a novel dengue vaccine in of a cohort dengue infected individuals. I have been involved in the design and implementation of the study protocol. The principal aim of the study is to assess whether cellular immune responses against highly conserved dengue antigens differ depending on the infecting dengue serotype in naturally exposed populations. Patients are currently being recruited from a highly endemic area of Western Mexico in collaboration with the Public Health Laboratory of the State of Michoacán.
