It was an intense week discussing all aspects of collaboration between British and Mexican research universities. Present at the Summit, which took place in Mexico City and Puebla, where our partner institution Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla hosted the University Directors Summit Mexico-UK – International Conference on Higher Education 2015 (Cumbre de Rectores Universitarios México-Reino Unido - Conferencia Internacional de Educación Superior ANUIES 2015) amongst many others, were:
Duncan Taylor CBE, British Ambassador;
Lena Milosevic, Mexico Country Director, British Council;
Baroness Bonham Carter, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Mexico;
Vivienne Stern, Director of the UK Higher Education International Unit;
Salvador Lopez Cabral, Head of Science & Innovation, British Embassy Mexico City (Newton Fund);
Guillermo Hernández Duque, ANUIES.
During the one-week long Summit, members of the delegation discussed and explored the need to collaborate on topics of national interest for both countries such as:
Examples of good practice in Global Health, which included a trip to the UNAM Faculty of Medicine, the National Institute of Genomic Medicine and the Centro Médico Siglo XXI;
Social Responsibility of Higher Education with the Energy Sector;
Opportunities for collaboration in Creative Industries;
and Examples of good practice in advanced engineering.
