The research in the Vivanco's laboratory focuses on the study of the human immune response to viral infections. We have been primarily focused on the study of a mosquito-borne human pathogen, Dengue virus. Also, we have begun to study two emerging pathogens in México, Chikungunya virus and Zika virus. The research projects are focused in studying about the host immune factors that modulate disease severity and correlates with protection or pathogenesis. Particularly, we are interested in studying the contribution of soluble molecules produced by different lymphocytes populations from both origins: from innate and adaptive immunity. Other important issues which are studied in the lab are the characterization of new adjuvants for vaccination and the development or validation of new diagnostic tests for different endemic pathogens. Recently, we have started to study the immunoregulatory role of endothelial cells in the context of viral infections.
