Núriban Valero-Pacheco

PhD candidate in Immunology at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico Development of a novel vaccine against Salmonella Typhi using recombinant viral vectors

Núriban Valero-Pacheco, BSc, MSc, is a PhD candidate in Immunology at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico. He works in the lab of Prof. Constantino López-Macías at the Mexican Social Security Institute, in Mexico City. Dr. López research is focused to study the mechanisms that translate innate immune responses into long-lasting immunity, and its application in the development of new adjuvants and vaccines. Nuriban is currently working on mapping the human CD4+ T cells epitopes of Salmonella Typhi outer membrane proteins (porins), and their use as vaccine candidates against Salmonella. He graduated with honours as a Chemist-Pharmacist-Biologist in 2010 from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In 2012, he obtained a MSc in Immunology from the IPN, where he studied the effects of PD-L1 expression on T cells and dendritic cells induced by infection with the 2009 pandemic influenza A/H1N1 virus. From October 2013 to July 2015 he joined the groups of Prof. Arturo Reyes-Sandoval and Prof. Paul Klenerman as an academic visitor at the University of Oxford, at the Jenner Institute and at the Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research, respectively. His work focused on the development of a novel vaccine against S. Typhi using recombinant viral vectors expressing S. Typhi porins.
