Pinfox

Pinfox is NDM's researcher information repository; a database that stores information about PIs and their research activity and is used to supply content to NeWT powered web pages. The data stored in Pinfox is split into PI records and grant information.

PI records have been designed to include such information as:

  • a personal profile detailing the researcher's career history.
  • a description of the PI's current research.
  • the major technology platforms, used to facilitate the sharing of key technologies.
  • current collaborators.
  • key publications via Symplectic.
  • current DPhil projects available to potential students.

Combining Pinfox with NDM's content management system, NeWT, allows easy publication of consistently produced profiles to the web.  A single Pinfox record can be used to power multiple NeWT sites, stopping duplication of effort and creating consistency across pages.

Grant Information can be uploaded from the Oracle R12 Projects Management Overview report and displayed as an intuitive 'dashboard'. PIs are able to log-in to their dashboard to view budgets, expenditure and project end-dates, and the system can be configured to send milestone reminder emails to PIs to remind them of workpackage and report deadlines, end-dates, audits etc. Administrators can view their department's entire portfolio at-a-glance.

Development is underway to add Timelines and Storyboards to Pinfox powered NeWT pages; features that will be used to map researchers' career paths and significant milestones.
