NDM are pleased to be able to announce that we have successfully achieved the Silver Athena SWAN award. The Athena SWAN Charter recognises and celebrates good practice on recruiting, retaining and promoting women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) in higher education.
The award was formally presented to the Department by Professor Dame Julia Higgins at Queen Mary Undercroft, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich on the 15th June 2015. Many thanks to all of you who took part in the process, and for all your hard work. This is a great result for the Department and demonstrates our commitment to creating an environment in which all our staff and students can fully engage, develop and flourish.
The Head of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, Professor Sir Peter Ratcliffe said of this achievement:
“I am absolutely delighted to hear this news. It is an important milestone in our efforts to make Oxford Medicine, and the Department in particular, a destination of choice for ambitious female doctors and biomedical scientists. I am extremely grateful for all the hard work from so many, which has brought about the changes underpinning this Athena Swan Silver Award.”
