Centre for Immuuno-=Oncology logo

No. of participants: 10

Oxford based

Duration: six months

What is the purpose of this study and why participate?

AdobeStock_1902867189.jpegThere is currently no vaccine for hepatitis C virus (HCV), and it is not feasible to conduct large clinical trials of new vaccines in naturally infected people. A Controlled Human Infection Model (CHIM) where healthy volunteers are intentionally exposed to HCV would allow more efficient testing of new preventative vaccines or drugs.

Trial Information

REC reference: 25/SC/0383

Chief Investigator: Eleanor Barnes

Aims and outcomes

AdobeStock_1921470856.jpegThe purpose of this study is to collect blood from individuals with acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) HCV infection. The plasma, which contains HCV, will be separated from the blood, tested, and stored for later use to establish HCV infection in future ethically-approved carefully monitored CHIM studies.
