What is the purpose of this study and why participate?
There is currently no vaccine for hepatitis C virus (HCV), and it is not feasible to conduct large clinical trials of new vaccines in naturally infected people. A Controlled Human Infection Model (CHIM) where healthy volunteers are intentionally exposed to HCV would allow more efficient testing of new preventative vaccines or drugs.

Aims and outcomes
The purpose of this study is to collect blood from individuals with acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) HCV infection. The plasma, which contains HCV, will be separated from the blood, tested, and stored for later use to establish HCV infection in future ethically-approved carefully monitored CHIM studies.
