Background For individuals with chronic hepatitis B virus infection to participate as leading stakeholders in their own health, it is essential that they are provided with information that allows them to understand their condition. Multimedia learning is highly aligned with the cognitive pathways by which people learn new information, so this is an appropriate mechanism by which to develop health information. Aims This protocol provides the methods for a systematic review that identifies and appraises the effectiveness of multimedia education tools versus verbal or written materials on adults’ knowledge and understanding of health information. Methods This systematic review will include publications written between 2014 and February 2024, and will be conducted using the Medline, EMBASE, and EMCARE bibliographic databases. The data will be synthesized and reported in a narrative review.
