We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Dr Chunxiao Songs research group located at the NDM Research Building. The role will be helping to develop technologies in epigenetics and applying them to elucidate epigenetic mechanisms in tumour biology and develop clinical applications in epigenetics. Recently the group have developed a novel bisulfite-free and direct base-resolution sequencing of DNA methylation, called TAPS (Nat. Biotechnol. doi: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41587-019-0041-2). TAPS could replace bisulfite sequencing as the new standard in DNA epigenetic analysis and to have wide applications in academic research and clinical diagnostics, especially in sensitive low-input samples, such as circulating cell-free DNA, single-cell epigenetics, and long-read epigenetic sequencing.
The group will apply TAPS to the following research areas: 1) epigenetic sequencing of the circulating cell-free DNA to develop non-invasive early cancer detection, 2) single-cell epigenetic sequencing to study the heterogeneity of tumours, 3) apply TAPS with third-generation sequencing technologies such as SMRT sequencing and nanopore sequencing for long-read epigenetic sequencing. This represents exciting opportunities for a postdoc to join the team to lead various applications with TAPS, not only to develop clinical diagnostics but also uncover new biological findings.
You must hold or be close to completion of a relevant PhD (or equivalent) in molecular biology/biochemistry/genetics/chemistry or a related science degree.
This full-time position is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance.
Further particulars, including details of how to apply, can be obtained from the document below. Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will required to upload your CV and supporting statement as part of your application.
