Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in HIV-host Interactions to join a Wellcome funded project in Professor Peijun Zhang group based in the Division of Structural Biology at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.
The project is focused on determining the mechanism of capsid-pattern sensing by host cell defense proteins and examining the consequence for HIV-1 infection upon alteration of host protein’s pattern-sensing ability. To define the molecular mechanism by which host factors act on the function of capsid and viral infectivity, we are carrying out structural and functional studies of HIV-1 capsid and host factor complexes using cyroEM methods, combined with computation, mutagenesis and functional assays.
You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities, including both design and action of strategies in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, structural studies using cryoEM and other appropriate methods. You will use specialist scientific equipment, such as cryo-electron microscopes, in a laboratory environment and will act as a source of information and advice to other group members and will act in a co-supervisory role towards graduate students within the research programme.
You will have a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in the structural and functional studies of proteins and protein complexes. You will have a research experience in production and purification of proteins for structure/function studies using mammalian and E coli expression systems; research experience in cryoEM and cryoET, and/or X-ray crystallography including both experimental and computational and substantial experience in protein biochemistry and structural biology. You should also demonstrate a good publication record, including work at level of first author in a leading refereed journal, and have good written and oral communication skills.
The position is fixed-term until 31 May 2022 and funded by Wellcome.
Please quote ref. 144945 on all correspondence. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 24 February 2020 can be considered.
