High protein ascites as a manifestation of Crohn's disease
Beale A., Morton D., Travis S.
Crohn's disease has many associations. A 34 year old lady with Crohn's disease presented with a relapse and abdominal distension secondary to high protein ascites. Drainage of the ascites, diuretics and treatment of her Crohn's flare brought about resolution of the ascites. No other cause was found. After six months follow-up and review of the literature we have concluded that high protein ascites may be a rare manifestation of Crohn's disease.
