Clinical and Molecular Epidemiology of Staphylococcus argenteus Infections in Thailand

<jats:p>Molecular typing of 246<jats:named-content content-type="genus-species">Staphylococcus aureus</jats:named-content>isolates from unselected patients in Thailand showed that 10 (4.1%) were actually<jats:named-content content-type="genus-species">Staphylococcus argenteus</jats:named-content>. Contrary to the suggestion that<jats:named-content content-type="genus-species">S. argenteus</jats:named-content>is less virulent than<jats:named-content content-type="genus-species">S. aureus</jats:named-content>, we demonstrated comparable rates of morbidity, death, and health care-associated infection in patients infected with either of these two species.</jats:p>
