Evmorfia Dalietou

DPhil Student

Eva graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with an MPharm Degree in Pharmacy, specialising in Drug Design & Medicinal Chemistry, in 2020. She completed her Master Thesis in Prof Thierry Langer’s Cheminformatics Research Group at the University of Vienna on novel antiviral agents against Chikungunya Virus using pharmacophore-based drug discovery methods.

After graduating, she began her DPhil studies in structural and chemical biology within the Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP programme under the supervision of Professors Alex Bullock and Paul Brennan, at the Centre for Medicines Discovery (CMD) and Target Discovery Institute (TDI).  Her doctoral studies focus on the structural basis for multi-subunit assembly and substrate selection by E3 ligases implicated in Alzheimer’s Disease. The structural determination of these modular enzymes through X-ray crystallography will inform the design of targeted protein degradation probes; small molecules that harness the ubiquitin-proteasome system to selectively degrade pathogenic proteins (PROTACs, molecular glues).

Her previous rotational work within the DTP focused on protein engineering and structural studies of neutralising nanobodies against SARS-CoV-2 to elucidate and enhance epitope recognition, under the supervision of Professors James Naismith and Ray Owens, at the Rosalind Franklin Institute.

Her studies are generously supported by the BBSRC, Oxford DTP and Bodosaki Foundation Scholarships.
