Previous experience
Before commencing a DPhil in Oxford Gulraj dabbled in behavioural economics, working for the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics and Center for Advanced Hindsight (Duke University). At Busara her projects were qualitative and included exploring the acceptability of the HPV vaccine in Kenya, antimicrobial resistance amongst livestock in Kenya, improving village savings and loans associations amongst refugee populations in Uganda and collecting and examining internal data on diversity and inclusion within Busara. At Duke she conducted literature reviews on engagement strategies for community health workers and how to implement behavioural nudges to encourage saving for national health insurance in Kenya via an mHealth platform.
Gulraj has worked as a research assistant at UCL, leading to publications on gender-based violence in Afghanistan and type 1 diabetes in Kenya. She worked with IAVI to study determinants of adult and adolescent vaccine and contraceptive uptake amongst policymakers and healthcare professionals and a project on access to monoclonal antibodies across Africa.
Her diverse research experience is currently being applied to a project exploring post-discharge care pathways in Kenya for small and sick newborns, and possible interventions to improve continuity of care.
