Louise Downs

Louise initially graduated in biological sciences from Imperial College London in 2003 and went on to study graduate medicine at St Georges University of London. Louise is currently a specialised registrar in infectious diseases at Oxford University Hospitals. Louise started her research career with an NIHR funded academic clinical fellowship working with Prof Philippa Matthews on hepatitis B and she is now undertaking a Wellcome funded DPhil looking at HBV biomarkers and improved patient stratification for monitoring and treatment. Louise's DPhil will take her to Kenya for two years where she will establish a new collaboration with the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Institite. Louise will develop a cohort of patients with chronic hepatitis B infection to begin an evidence base for provision of HBV diagnostics and treatment. Louise spends most of her other time at home with two small children and her cat.
