- The University Equality Policy is detailed on the EDU webpages.
- The University publishes an annual Equality Report setting out key equality data and summarising the University’s main equality-related activity during the preceding academic year. The Report contributes to the University’s evidence-based policy making and target setting.
- The University Equality and Diversity Panel advises on the development of an overarching strategy for work on equality and diversity across the collegiate University. The Panel is chaired by the Advocate for Equality and Diversity. The Panel meets termly and reports to both Personnel and Education Committees.
- The EDU have a collection of equality and diversity podcasts, including recordings of the annual LGBT+ and Disability lectures.
- Information and guidance on how to create and foster an inclusive workplace culture has been provided by the EDU.
- The Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity Awards celebrate exceptional work to promote equality and diversity. The Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity Awards were established in 2018 to make initiatives – and individual commitment – more visible.
- The Diversifying Portraiture project, led by the Equality and Diversity Unit and supported by the Diversity Fund, celebrates and highlights a range of pioneering figures whose achievements over the centuries have challenged the stereotypes of their time
- The EDU provide a list of equality and diversity newsletters, including the EDU Newsletter, the Race Equality Newsletter and the Oxford Women’s Newsletter, and details how to subscribe.
- The Returning Carers Fund has been set up to support those who have taken a break for caring responsibilities to re-establish their research careers.
- The Diversity Fund is an annual fund which provides small grants to initiatives aimed at furthering this commitment, with the aim of delivering a lasting change in culture across the collegiate University.
Disability and Neurodiversity
Race and Ethnicity
- The EDU provides information about the University’s work to promote race equality, with links to resources, progress reports and support mechanisms via their Race equality page.
- The University Race Equality Task Force aims to advance racial equality across the collegiate University of Oxford, and to ensure that all people and perspectives are valued and that, in practice, opportunities are open to all people without racial discrimination. The Equality Task Force consultation was opened during Michaelmas term 2021 on recommendations and proposed measures.
- The University’s participation in the Race Equality Charter provides a framework for analysis and results in a comprehensive action plan to promote race equality. Read more about the Race Equality Charter.
- The BME Staff Network is open to all University of Oxford staff who identify as Black and Minority Ethnic (BME). The group has an email list that acts a confidential discussion forum, and holds various meetings throughout the year, both social and work-related. Membership of the group is kept confidential.
- The Anti-Racism Ally Network is part of the BME Staff Network (BMESN), and aims to create a supportive community to tackle systemic racism at the University of Oxford.
- PIVOT is a mentoring scheme for staff who identify as Black and Minority Ethnic (BME). For full details about the scheme please see the EDU Training and Mentoring page.
Religion and Belief
- The EDU have provided information about the University’s work to promote gender equality.
- The University of Oxford was a founder member of the Athena Swan Charter and has held an institutional Athena Swan award since 2006. You can read more information here.
- Women Making History celebrates women’s contributions to scholarship and to progressive change at Oxford. It was launched in 2020 to mark 100 years since the first women were awarded degrees at Oxford in 1920.
- As we celebrate women’s contribution to scholarship and progressive change at Oxford, and mark 100 years since the first women were awarded degrees, the University has published some detail on the University’s progress on gender equality.
- In April 2021 the University published its Gender Pay Gap Report.
- The Oxford Women’s Newsletter (OWN) contains a round-up of news, resources and events, and celebrates the achievements of women at Oxford. Find out more and subscribe via the EDU’s Newsletters and Events page.
- The EDU provides information, advice and support for transgender staff and students, including detailing the University’s commitment as outlined in the Transgender Policy and detailed guidance.
- The University is part of Stonewall’s (Europe’s largest lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) charity) Diversity Champion Programme, which works to ensure all LGBT staff are accepted without exception in the workplace.
- The University has an active LGBT+ Staff Network, providing social and work-related networking opportunities.
- The LGBT+ Role Models network is made up of individuals who have attended Role Model training.
- The LGBT+ Advisory Group works with the Equality and Diversity Unit to highlight issues relating to LGBT+ staff and students in order to inform the development of University policy and practice in relation to LGBT+ staff and students and to facilitate consultation and the sharing of information with LGBT+ staff and students.
- The University has a growing network of LGBT+ Allies who have attended the LGBT+ Allies training.
