Oxford researchers from the Nuffield Department of Medicine are part of a major new international initiative with the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Wellcome and the Gates Foundation to accelerate the discovery of urgently needed antibiotics. The Gram-Negative Antibiotic Discovery Innovator (Gr-ADI) brings together global expertise to tackle drug-resistant Gram-negative infections, one of the most serious threats to global health.

Oxford University and Brazil Ministry of Health Sign Letter of Intent to Strengthen Cancer Care Across Brazil

The Ministry of Health of Brazil and Oxford’s Centre for Immuno-Oncology, part of the Nuffield Department of Medicine, have signed a Letter of Intent establishing a broad collaboration to advance cancer research, innovation and clinical translation. The agreement builds on the UK-Brazil Government Health Partnership signed earlier this year, and reflects a shared commitment to accelerating research that will lead to improvements in cancer care across Brazil.
Oxford researchers develop first live-cell assay linking cancer tumour metabolism to drug effectiveness

Scientists at the Centre for Medicines Discovery, part of Oxford University’s Nuffield Department of Medicine, have developed a biosensor that, for the first time, allows researchers to directly measure how experimental cancer drugs engage their target inside living cells dependent on co-factors and metabolites.

The ERC Starting Grant supports early-career researchers with 2-7 years of experience since completion of their PhD, providing up to €1.5 million over five years to establish independent research teams and pursue high-risk, high-reward science.

Côte d’Ivoire becomes first nation to deploy R21 malaria vaccine

Côte d’Ivoire will become the first country to roll-out the new R21/Matrix-M™ vaccine with the first child vaccinated in Abidjan, marking a critical step and historic milestone in the global fight against malaria. 15 African countries are expected to introduce malaria vaccines with Gavi support in 2024, and countries plan to reach around 6.6 million children with the malaria vaccine in 2024 and 2025. The new vaccine has been authorised by Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic, and many others are preparing to receive shipments.
