The Department wishes to announce that Richard Cornall has been re-appointed as Head of Department of the Nuffield Department of Medicine for another five-year term.
Originally from the Isle of Wight, Professor Cornall read biochemistry in Cambridge, and then clinical medicine in Oxford. He worked for a few years as a physician, after which he was a graduate student with John Todd at Oxford, where he studied the genetics of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. After stints at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and Stanford University, in 2000 he was made a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow and Honorary Consultant at the University of Oxford.
Professor Cornall and his group focus on immune regulation and autoimmunity, B cells, the treatment of autoimmune diseases. He and Professor Simon Davis co-founded the biotech company MIROBio, which is now part of Gilead Sciences.
Professor Cornall said: ‘It is a privilege to be the head of such an amazing department with so many talented staff and students. I look forward to the next few years as NDM continues to drive innovation and have a major impact on human health and well-being worldwide.’
