Prof Andrew Brent, Chief Medical Officer and Consultant in Infectious Disease and Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals (OUH), has been an important part of the collaboration between OUH and the University. In recognition, he has been confirmed as the Visiting Professor of Infectious Diseases and General Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Medicine.
Affiliated to NDM for many years, Prof Brent trained at NDM’s KEMRI-Wellcome Unit in Kenya, focusing on the epidemiology and diagnosis of invasive bacterial infections and tuberculosis in children. Now he is formally attached to the Modernising Medical Microbiology unit, who are aiming to transform how we analyse and treat infections, to improve patient care.
Professor Richard Cornall, Nuffield Professor of Clinical Medicine and Head of Department, said: ‘It is a pleasure to welcome Andrew Brent back formally to NDM! The Professorship recognises years of pioneering clinically-orientated research into infectious disease, as well as Andrew’s unwavering commitment to building stronger links between the Trust and University, as evident during the pandemic and more recently in his role as Chief Medical Officer.’
Prof Brent said: ‘I am honoured and delighted to accept the conferment of the title of Visiting Professor. One of the many privileges of medicine is the opportunity to combine clinical work with both research and education, and I have been very privileged to do this throughout my career, including in collaboration with the Nuffield Department of Medicine. I look forward to continuing to support and contribute to both education and research in each of my roles.’
