Makoto Saito -4th Year Prize Winner (Philippe Guérin and Rose McGready, TropMed) for his work on the epidemiology of treatment of falciparum malaria in pregnancy, where limited evidence existed. His project is aimed to summarise the available evidence to optimise the clinical care of pregnant women with malaria and improve the quality of the methodology of research in the future on this understudied but important sub-populations. Working with the researchers at the Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU, Mae Sot, Thailand) and the WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN, Oxford), he has published eight first-author articles, and given seven oral presentations at academic conferences during his DPhil, with some more upcoming manuscripts expected.
